Moss Agate Archive, 2000

This piece is the record of a journey along the length of the Yellowstone River, the only major undammed river in the United States. This sculpture can be worn as a backpack. On the outside of the pack is a map of the river, and tubes filled with agate and beaver sticks. The doors open to reveal more maps, sweet grass that grows on the banks of the river, photographs of the river and water samples, a video documentary, and a book cloaked with soil from the shore of the river. The 'words' of this book are formed of moss agate, found along the same river.
