Week 9 Scholarly Questions and Analytical Thinking
Muscles of the Wrist and Hand

Can you describe wrist extension, wrist hyperextension and wrist flexion?

Can you describe finger flexion and finger extension?
Can you describe thumb flexion and thumb extension?
Review muscles of the wrist and hand; please use your text.
What does the extensor retinaculum muscle do?
What does the flexor retinaculum muscle do?

What is wrist abduction? Is it the same as radial deviation? Please make sure you know.

What is wrist adduction? Is it the same as ulnar deviation? Please make sure you know.

Can you describe finger aDduction and finger aBduction?
Please review the joints of the hand. Can you identify the distal phalanx, middle phalanx, proximal phalanx, and second metacarpal bones.

Remember, each finger has 3 joints...metacarpophalangeal, proximal interphalangeal, and distal interphalangeal joints.

The thumb has 2 joints? Remember they are the interphalangeal and metacarpophalangeal joints.

Where are the carpometacarpal joints located? Where are the intercarpal joints in the wrist?

Are muscles on the anterior side of the forearm flexors or extensors? Are muscles on the posterior side of the forearm flexors or extensors?

Review the following muscles just to know their actions: brachioradialis, extensor carpi radialis longus, extensor carpi radialis brevis, extensor carpi ulnaris, extensor digitorum, flexor carpi radialis, palmaris longus, flexor carpi ulnaris, flexor digitorum superficialis, flexor digitorum profundus

What muscle is a primary agonist during ulnar deviation?
Which muscle extends the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th fingers?
Which muscle is a primary agonist during radial deviation?

What muscles contribute to ulnar deviation?
Which muscles contribute to radial deviation?
Which muscles help you hold onto a pull-up bar?

YOU CAN LEARN ALL OF THIS IF YOU STUDY YOUR KINESIOLOGY EVERY DAY.
