Week 7 Scholarly Questions and Analytical Thinking
Shoulder Joint

All of our applied kinesiology sections will have a very strong anatomical review of the structure. Make sure you know your anatomical structure of the shoulder joint very well.

What type of joint is the shoulder joint?
The head of the humerus articulates with what on the scapula
Discuss the concept of high stability with low mobility? Discuss the concept of low stability with high mobility?

The tendon of the long head of the biceps runs through what groove on the humerus?

What are the different movements of the shoulder joint?

Make sure you are familiar with the pectoralis major, coracobrachialis, subscapularis, deltoid, supraspinatus, latissimus dorsi, teres minor, infraspinatus, teres major.
Which muscles are anterior? Is it the pectoralis major, coracobrachialis and subscapularis?

Which muscles are superior? Is it the deltoid and supraspinatus?

Which muscles are posterior? Is it the latissimus dorsi, teres minor, infraspinatus and teres major?

Make sure you know the ORIGIN and INSERTION of the latissimus dorsi and pectoralis major?

Which muscles are the rotator cuff muscles? Is it the subscapularis, supraspinatus, teres minor and infraspinatus? Really spend a lot of time reviewing and learning the actions of the rotation cuff muscles. Remember the memory technique SITS to remember their names.

PLEASE LEARN ORIGIN AND INSERTION OF THE ROTATOR CUFF MUSCLES

What muscles contribute to external rotation of the humerus? Is it the infraspinatus and teres minor?

Review the deltoid very close. Please learn the ORIGIN and INSERTION of the deltoid.

What muscle is the latissimus dorsi's little helper?

What muscles contribute to flexion at the glenohumeral joint? Is it the anterior deltoid and pectoralis major (clavicular)?

What muscles contribute to extension at the glenohumeral joint? Are there any rotator cuff muscles that contribute to extension of the glenohumeral joint?

What muscles contribute to adduction at the glenohumeral joint?

What muscles contribute to abduction at the glenohumeral joint?

What muscles contribute to internal rotation of the humerus?

What muscles contribute to horizontal adduction of the humerus?

What muscles contribute to horizontal abduction of the humerus?

YOU CAN LEARN ALL OF THIS IF YOU STUDY YOUR KINESIOLOGY EVERY DAY.
