Motivation & Background:

·       13 years ago on July 4th 2003 the Encebado fire burned nearly 4,000 acres of Pueblo lands burned in the sacred Blue Lake Area

§   The Rio Pueblo watershed has experienced some significant changes and there are currently concerns about bank erosion along the road leading up to Blue Lake.

·       A large portion of publications have shown elevated, sometimes extremely large post-fire sediment losses before geomorphological stability is re-established. Post-fire changes to stream channels occur over both short and long terms with complex feedback mechanisms, though research to date has been limited (Shakesby, 2006).
