Demonstrates: Inertia.
Description: An iron ball is suspended vertically by monofilament and a rod is suspended from the iron ball. If the rod is given a quick jerk the bottom string breaks. If the rod is pulled slowly the upper string breaks.

Hazard: Iron mass falling on foot. |
Instructions: Set up as shown in schematic. First jerk bottom string to break; replace filament; then pull slowly. Iron mass should fall.

Items Used: Monofilament (3 or 4 equal lengths), Iron mass, foam to catch iron mass. |
Notes: Requires dedicated set-up time and practic eby instructor. |
