International Honor Society of the Two-Year College
Beta Zeta Zeta Chapter
History |
|
On Friday, April 11, 1997 the University of New Mexico-Valencia Campus held its first Orientation to acquaint eligible students with the benefits and responsibilities of membership in Phi Theta Kappa, the prestigious two-year college honor society. The Regional Advisor for New Mexico, Andy Burt from NMSU-Alamogordo, joined us to present Phi Theta Kappa to our students, and answer questions regarding membership. |
|
The Orientation was a culmination of the efforts of Rosezel Allen, a UNM Valencia Campus student, who became a member of Phi Theta Kappa at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College near Biloxi, Mississippi. For several weeks before the Orientation, Roze worked very hard to put together all the necessary paperwork, communicate with the Phi Theta Kappa national office in Jackson, Mississippi, and organize a chapter of Phi Theta Kappa on our campus.

Upon chartering our chapter in March, 1997, UNM Valencia Campus became the 15th two-year college in New Mexico to sponsor a chapter of Phi Theta Kappa. Our first induction ceremony was held at that time, and a second induction ceremony was held in May, 1998. |
