Syllabus

Minitab

We will use the Minitab software package for our calculations.  This is a very nice, easy package to
use with good support and documentation.  The following information is on Ron Schrader's home
page (as well as similar information for other packages).

Documentation Availability (as far as I know) A few Useful Links
Online at Minitab (mostly installed with software, too) - CIRT Pod (public)
- ESC Pod South (public)
- Math/Stat dept. lab (not public)
- Med 2 classroom (not public)
- Room 226 HSC library
    (for MPH, not public)
- 4 special computers in HSC library (for MPH - not public)
Inexpensive rentals
Indiana University
The University of Reading
(Most links on the web are for obsolete versions, but the above are current)

You should purchase (rent) a license for the software if at all possible (see the "Inexpensive rentals"
link above).  Open time in the Med 2 lab is limited, and a 5 month rental is only $30.

Lecture Notes

The lecture notes used the past few years have become somewhat dated and are under substantial
revision.  The revisions are not complete - notes will be posted as soon as I can finish them (but
hopefully a week before you need them).  You will need to print them before class.  They  are in
pdf form, so you will need Adobe Acrobat Reader.

1. Introduction
2. Descriptive Statistics
3. Graphical Displays of Data   |   First Half   |   Second Half
4. Probability    |     Normal Distribution Tables
5. Probability, Sampling Distributions, Central Limit Theorem
6. Estimation in the One-Sample Situation
7. Hypothesis Testing in the One-Sample Situation
8. Two-Sample Inferences for Means
9. One-Way Analysis of Variance
10. Discrete Data Analysis
11. Correlation and Regression    |    Minitab output for blood loss data
12. Multiple Linear Regression    |    Minitab output for examples
13. Logistic Regression    |    Minitab output
14. Survival Analysis
15. Papers for discussion:

Adams, et. al.              Kelder, et. al.              Lahteenkorva, et. al.
Siebert, et. al.              Tester, et. al.

At the request of a former student, I have combined all these notes into one (large!) file.
I have not added a table of contents or index, i.e. there is nothing new.
If you want that large file click here.  This does not include separate Minitab output.

Homework

Write your results as a report with appropriate documentation.  A pile of computer output, even
with some annotations, is not acceptable.
