STAT 345-002: Elements of Mathematical Statistics and Probability
Spring 2006

This is the page for Dr. Schrader's section on TR at 2.  I will put homework assignments,
announcements, supplementary materials, etc. on this page.

Old practice final     |     Solutions
Another old practice final      |     Solutions

Since practice exams said you could have 2 pages of notes, I will allow two pages.
The solutions (new) for the Ch.8-9 problems below show the types of problems that
you can expect on the final that do not appear on the practice exams.  Otherwise the
practice exams are a good representation of problems on the final.   I will weight
approximatly 50% from exams 1-2, 50% material since exam 2.

Minitab

We will use the Minitab software package for some of our calculations.  This is a very nice, easy package to
use with good support and documentation.  The following information is on Ron Schrader's home
page (as well as similar information for other packages).

Documentation Availability (as far as I know) A few Useful Links
Online at Minitab (mostly installed with software, too) - CIRT Pod (public)
- ESC Pod South (public)
- Math/Stat dept. lab (not public)
- Med 2 classroom (not public)
Inexpensive rentals
Indiana University
The University of Reading
(Most links on the web are for obsolete versions, but the above are current)

This is not a computing class nearly as much as a theoretical class.  I do encourage you to purchase  (rent) a license
for the software if at all possible (see the "Inexpensive rentals" link above).  A 5 month rental is only $30.  You
should be able to get by just on the copies publicly available if you prefer not to spend the $30.  You could just wait
and see if you find purchase necessary (you can get a 30-day trial for free).
