GEOG585: Internet Mapping: Lab 3

Question 1

What area do you want to depict in your map? Why?

Answer: The state of New Mexico.  This is the spatial extent of my thesis research.

Question 2

What is the center point (latitude and longitude) of your area of interest?

Answer: Center of the state with offset for navigation controls:  34.396497, -106.583108

Question 3

What style of map (roads, satellite, hybrid, terrain) is appropriate for your map? Why?

Answer: Terrain, the data collected by the hydrologic instrumentation is heavily dependent upon topography and infrastructure. 

Question 4

What is the scale of your map (local, regional, continental, global)? How will this translate into your selection of an appropriate default zoom level for your map?

Answer: This will be a regional map.  The zoom level (6) will show the entire state.  Most of the data I will be working with is in the central part of the state so this zoom level may change to 7 or 8.
