Early Chinese Pottery

While this jar is not yet formally assigned to any culture or phase, it is from the Chinese Neolithic period and we suspect that it is from the Banshan phase of the Majiayao culture. It is 11 1/2 inches (29 cm) tall. While the lid includes an animal effigy, we're not sure what the animal is.

The next photo shows the jar with the lid removed.
