2012.91.59, tomb guardian, painted terracotta. Height 58 cm (23 inches).
Eason Eige collection; photo by B. Bernard
The first emperor of unified China, Qin Shi Huang, was buried with thousands
of full-sized terracotta warriors. Someone far less important wound up with
this pint-sized protector.
In the next photo it's easier to see the warrior's
grim expression, as well as details of the intricate painting.
