Motivation

The study of Heyojoo & Takhacche (2014) shows that about 80% of water is lost due to sedimentation and if the rate of sedimentation increased by the same amount then there will be no water in next 135 to 175 years. Also, earlier studies mostly cover limnology, phytoplankton and zooplankton diversity and bathymetry and sedimentation rate of the lake for Phewa (Balla & Sthapit, 1998; Shrestha & Janauer, 2001; Aryal 2008; Heyojoo & Takhachhe, 2014). Nevertheless, studies on nutrient characteristics of sediment are found to be rare. Thus, the present study is carried out to investigate the nutrient status in the lake sediments that will act as preliminary data for status of lake sediments.

Objectives

Mapping of the concentration of nitrogen and phosphorous in lake sediments.

Analysis of nutrients distribution based on land use.
